Growth and Protection

Academic article: Insect frass and exuviae to promote plant growth and health

Journal: Trends in plant science

This article discusses how chitin, which is contained in Soil Probiotic is colonized by "plant-protective or plant growth-promoting bacteria when added to soil"

Boost microbes, boost growth

Academic article: Frass and Furious: Unfolding the Potential of Insect Frass as Soil Fertilizer

Journal: â€‹Agrochemicals

This article describes how frass can play an important role in sustainable soil fertilization by not only adding nutrients but also promoting the soil microbiome required for nutrient uptake.

Soil Boosting Chitin from Cricket Shells

Academic article: Chitin Mixed in Potting Soil Alters Lettuce Growth, the Survival of Zoonotic Bacteria on the Leaves and Associated Rhizosphere Microbiology

Journal: â€‹Frontiers in Microbiology

This article reports on an experiment trialling the effectiveness of the addition of chitin such as that found in Soil Probiotic on the growth of lettuce. "As a result of chitin addition, lettuce fresh yield weight was significantly increased“ and "a more than 10-fold increase" in soil bacteria involved in biocontrol, plant growth promotion, and the nitrogen cycle.

Greenhouse and laboratory trials

Academic article: The future of frass: a sustainable fertilizer with biostimulation properties

International Society for Horticultural Science

This article describes trials run in greenhouses and laboratories, the beneficial microbial life found in soil with added insect frass and its positive effect on plant growth, root growth, and pest resistance, and how large pieces of exoskeleton in raw frass (such as that found in Soil Probiotic) are superior for improving soil health.
